Observations and soundings

Surface observations and upper-air soundings sampled at a point or at the nearest station. METAR collections come back as GeoJSON; nearest and sounding lookups return the station that actually reported.

Reach for these when a scheduling or aviation integration needs what was measured, not what is forecast — a METAR sky layer for a canvas, a sounding for a briefing, or the closest station to a field site.
