Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a request?

Each API call counts as one request. Batch requests count as one request per location in the batch. MCP tool invocations each count as one request.

Can I try before paying?

Yes. Sign up for a free account and provision a test API key (prefixed sw_test_). Test keys hit the same endpoints as live keys, with a generous daily quota for evaluation. Switch to a paid plan when you're ready to go live.

How does overage billing work?

Each plan includes a monthly bundle of API calls. Anything beyond the bundle bills as metered overage at the plan's posted per-1,000-call rate. Overage is added to the next monthly invoice; there's no surprise mid-cycle charge.

Can I change plans anytime?

Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time from your dashboard. Changes take effect immediately with prorated billing.

What are the per-minute rate limits?

Free keys get 60 requests/minute. Developer keys get 600 requests/minute. Professional keys get 6,000 requests/minute. Every response carries RateLimit-* headers (per the IETF rate-limit-headers draft, no X- prefix) so your client can self-throttle; 429s honor Retry-After.

Do you offer enterprise pricing?

Yes. Enterprise plans are custom per-customer: negotiated monthly volume, rate limits, and SLAs. Email sales@smarterweather.com to scope a contract.
